Penangism!

Remember how I went on a road trip with my mom and a few of her friends to catch the Akram Khan Company? Here are some pictures I took of the beautiful island. On the way to Penang, we stopped in Bidor for their famous Duck Noodles and stayed at the beautiful Muntri Mews.

There was so much beauty to capture all over the place so naturally I was deeply gutted when I realised that I forgot to bring my camera. Luckily mom brought hers so I managed to snap away. I've probably visited the island not more than 7 times throughout my entire life and it was only during this trip I managed to really appreciate everything around me. The food was yummy, the people pleasant and the architecture amazing. All my pictures we literally taken while I walked around the island.

So here you go, enjoy Penang through my eyes...

Bidor Duck Noodles (Ngap Twooi Meen)
Muntri Mews
77, Muntri Street
+604 263 5125
Penang's Famous Cendui
Chowrasta Market for their famous preserved Buah Pala (nutmeg).
Medicated oil believed to magically buang angin (remove wind or gas). I was told that Ban Leng translates literally to Like Magic. My grandmother used to apply this oil using cotton wool onto my belly button as a baby to prevent colic or tummy aches due to gas in my belly. I still dab minyak cap kapak on my belly whenever my tummy aches to this day. Did your grandmother do this for you as a baby?
Antique shops galore!
They even sell old wedding polaroid and passport photographs!
The 'Malaysian' piggy bank. These banks don't have holes in them so the only way you can count your money once it's full is by smashing it! Very nice art deco pieces no? Only RM 4!
No Penang trip is complete without Line Clear's Nasi Kandar. Funnily, there was no line when we went there for dinner...
The Blue Mansion guided tour is a must-do! Learn about Chinese motifs, superstitions and the Hokkien phrase, "Marry Young Man Become Young Man's Slave, Marry Old Man Become Old Man's Darling."
More yummies, local kopi-O (coffee without milk), char kuey teow and lor bak!
Check out the floor tiles from different houses I passed by on the street...so retro-riffic!
Architectural Haven
You even find art installations all over the place! Amsterdam what? Just visit Penang lah...
Fun Fact: The first step or two of a staircase is usually made of cement to prevent termites from attacking the wood. Smart huh?
Loved their street names...
Visited Alpha Utara Gallery and they put up a wall in conjunction with Bersih 2.0. They provided different coloured papers and allowed people to leave messages on the board.
